Making it easy for your Southeast Asian and Chinese customers to pay you- Introducing AliPay+
Imagine you are at a shop in Southeast Asia. You want to pay for something by scanning a QR code. There, you are shown multiple QR codes for multiple e-wallet apps:
Isn’t this confusing?
In another scenario, let’s say you are in China and you want to make a QR code payment. You have to install the Alipay or WeChat Pay app. What a bother!
Now, this problem can be solved. Introducing Alipay+…
In the first scenario, instead of the merchant displaying multiple QR codes for multiple e-wallet apps, they can display just one QR code. In Singapore, that QR code will be called “SGQR”. You can use any e-wallet app to scan that one QR code to make your payment.
In the second scenario, instead of having to install AliPay or WeChat Pay when you are in China, you simply use your favourite e-wallet app to scan the AliPay+ QR code:
Now, let’s turn this situation over to you as a merchant…
If you are a small business that sells to tourists or students from Southeast Asia, you may want to consider signing up as a merchant of AliPay+. The advantage is that your Southeast Asian and Chinese customers will be able to pay you with any of their favourite e-wallet apps from their home countries. They do not have to worry about currency conversion because the underlying QR payment system does it for them. They do not have to organise beforehand payment methods like prepaid Visa cards. They do not have to worry about running out of foreign currency.
In other words, you will be making it so easy for them to pay you from their favourite e-wallet apps. As a result, you are likely to increase your sales to them.
In Australia, if you are an ePay Australia retailer, you are automatically signed up for AliPay+. Here is the information from ePay Australia on signing up to it.
